Studio, Rehearsal, and Live Shows

This is an outtake from when we recorded our lone 45' with Brian Webster at Chateau East. This is miles better than both sides of the single, but we made the decision based on the newness of the songs, rather than their quality. Best thing we ever recorded, this kicks ass.

'A' side of our 45'.

When Brian was mixing these down for me, there was a track where Tim wanted to hear how he'd sound singing this, so I asked Brian to mix it with Tim singing the first verse, and Scott singing the second. Pretty cool, and a compact Rick Neilsen solo from your's truly.

This is an outtake from when we recorded our single with (sadly) no vocal track. I forgot how freakin' tight Michael Dane is on bass...

This is the set opener from The Woodsound in Monrovia. Try following this, motherfuckers ;-)

From the 1st time we recorded anything, from a Santa Ana rehearsal. My 18 year old self pretending he's Mick Ronson! Second version is from a rehearsal in Fullerton with me aping Rik Emmett this time...
Early 1978
This is the first thing we ever recorded on a proper tape machine. The most bubblegum thing we'd ever attempted (not like us in the least), but it's pretty cool! Rodney Bingenheimer used to play this on KROQ quite a bit, and Jan & Dean gave it a big thumbs up when they were on his show.
Charlie Harley recorded about 40 shows back in the day, and I just duped everything he has from cassette to digital, warts and all.

Semi-infamous Scott drunk tape. Tempo's faster than normal, and the show kicks. 20:46 is the magic of a Fender Bassman :-) Track list:
Smoke My Jock, Boom Boom Room, It's Been Grand, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler, Mechanics Guide to Nice Girls, Carburetion Generation, Body Rot, Breakfast Cereal Bonanza, Psychotic Reaction, 2026, Tim Maag Breaks a Bass String, Loose, Live To Ride, Airplay, I Got a Right

SIR was a place for bands to rehearse before big shows, with club-sized stages, and mirrored walls to check out if you looked like a dork or not. This is a rehearsal before a Starwood showcase. Track list:
Smoke My Jock, Boom Boom Room, It's Been Grand, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler, Mechanics Guide to Nice Girls, Enema Punishment, Breakfast Cereal Bonanza, Psychotic Reaction, Doubleknit Swingers Unite!, Stragetic Air Command, Night Train, Carburetion Generation, Airplay

Manager Glenn Buxton does the fictional intro to what sounds like an audience of 15. Track list:
Carburetion Generation, Boom Boom Room, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler, Mechanics Foreign Policy, Love Will Keep Us Together, It's Been Grand, Mechanics Guide to Nice Girls, Psychotic Reaction, Night Train, Airplay, Body Rot, We Came To Swing (which appears to be from another show)
02/09-10/1979
All instrumental, pretty good quality. Probably from Tim's 4 track.
Live To Ride, Carburetion Generation, Smoke My Jock, Body Rot, We Came To Swing, Search and Destroy, It's Been Grand, 2026, Mechanics Guide to Nice Girls, Airplay, Love Will Keep Us Together, Boom Boom Room, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler
Unk. Date.
I have about 5 Starwood shows, most sound pretty muddy, this ones not too bad. Guessing 80-81 by the set.
Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler, Boom Boom Room, Superkill, No Brakes, It's Been Grand, Love Will Keep Us Together, Or Is This One Superkill? (Can't Remember!), Psychotic Reaction, Live to Ride

This has not only the song 'Head Over Heels' which we only played early on, but also has a song that I don't remember in the slightest. No vocals, so-so audio quality. One of the last times original bassist Brett Alexander played with us.
Head Over Heels, Stragetic Air Command, Boom Boom Room, Mystery Tune(!), Airplay, Smoke My Jock, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler

Ever wondered what I sound like on 2 hits of blotter? Sure you have! By party time Scott and me had done acid from an honest to god Grateful Dead roadie, split a 5th of Jack Daniels, plus a ton of hash oil and weed. I spent the set channelling my favorite guitarists, Dave Meniketti for one, and Bill Nelson, judging by the 1st song (Doubleknit Swingers Unite, an old Toys song). Got my prized 73' Flying V broken in a drunken fight later on. Might be the only tape out there with us improvising Iggy, Hendrix, Kingsman & UFO covers to fill time.
SET 1: Doubleknit Swingers Unite!, Third Stone From The Sun, Head Over Heels, Stragetic Air Command, Chalet Time 2:02, Little Hitler
SET 2: Shoot Shoot, I Got a Right, It's Been Grand
SET 3: Enema Punishment, Stragetic Air Command, Smoke My Jock, 2026, Body Rot, Head Over Heels, Loose, Airplay, We Came To Swing, Love Will Keep Us Together, Loose, Mechanics Guide to Nice Girls, 7 & 7 Is, Louie Louie
