Brian remembers this better, but I met Brian when he was shopping for a rehearsal space for his band, Valhalla. Robert Logan and I were smoking weed and lifting weights(!) when Brian arrived, and I was an ass to him, probably because he said he played guitar and was better looking than I was. He got even after they moved in. A lot of our studio’s crowd started to come early to watch Valhalla rehearse, and they were really good. Everyone especially noted Brian’s mastery of complicated Van Halen riffs. This lit a fire under me. I quit getting high so much, started woodshedding, and tried to catch back up. Imagine, someone coming into your world and blowing you away, arrgh! :-)
Brian is still sound guy extraordinaire and a badass guitar player. He produced the first ever Metallica demo years back (same week he did our 45'), and has done sessions with about everybody local.
